LAND USE REGULATIONS

Locational Policy for Small Scale Industries in India

- In tune with the liberalised Licencing Policy, the locational Policy has also been significantly amended.

- There is no requirement of obtaining industrial approval from the Central Government (except for the industries under compulsory licensing) for locations not falling within cities having a population of more than 1 million.

- In respect of units proposed to be located in cities with population greater than 1 million, industries of a non- polluting nature such as electronics, computer software and printing, may be located within 25 Kms of periphery of urban areas.

- Other industries are permitted only if they are located in Industrieal Areas designated prior to 25.7.1991.

- Zoning and Land Use Regulations as well as Environmental Legislation continue to regulate industrial locations.
