A re-oriented programme of modernisation and technology upgradation aimed at improving efficiency and cost effectiveness in the SSI Sector had been pursued. It was envisaged in the Policy Statement that specific studies in large concentrations/clusters would be carried out in conjunction with SIDBI and other banks to establish commercial viability of modernisation and it also envisaged to provide financial support to these industries on priority basis. Accordingly, Small Industries Development Organisation identified a few clusters and a programme of study was entrusted to the Small Industries Service Institutes all over the country. During the 8th Five Year Plan, it is proposed to conduct studies in all the prominent clusters throughout the country through the SISIs/Private consultants or consulting agencies and organisations.

The follow-up action on recommendation of these studies would be continued till the complete action is taken.
