SISI Solan (HP)

Introduction

Small Industries Service Institute, Solan provides a comprehensive rang of facilities and services including consultancy in techno-economic, managerial, training to existing and prospective small scale entrepreneurs in the State of Himachal Pradesh comprising 12 districts viz. Shimla, SOlan, Sirmour, Kangra, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Una, Mandi, Kullu, Lahaul Spiti, Kinnaur and Chamba. Two districts viz. Lahaul Spiti, Kinnaur and Pangi and Bharmaur sub divisions of Chamba and Dodra Kawar areas of Shimla districts are inaccessible for about 7 months in a year due to snow and bad weather.

Workshop/Laboratory Facilities

The Institute has one workshop attached to it in which training on Clinical and Industrial Thermometer and Scientific Laboratory Apparatus is provided. During the year 1998-99 no workshop was conducted.

Training & Seminars Conducted

The Institute organised the following training courses during the year: a) One Entrepreneurship Development Training Programme for four weeks was conducted at Sundar Nagar in Kulu in which 88 participants took part. b) One MDP Programme was conducted. In this programme 20 participants took part. c) One Energy Conservation Awareness Programme was conducted at Baddi in which 19 candidates were participated. d) The Institute conducted 2 Motivation Campaigns. 72 persons were benefitted from these campaigns.

Consultancy Services Provided

The details of consultancy services provided during the year 1998-99 are as follows:

Besides one State Industrial Profile was prepared under the Action Plan 1997-98. Two District Industrial Potential Surveys were also prepared.Besides this 12 new Project Profiles were prepared and 4 reports were updated.

Technical Documents

Technical documents viz. Study Report on mech. Watch assembly, Industry Status Report on Mechanical watch assembly & components, Compendium of project profiles on National Scheme for Rehabilitation of Scavengers and their dependents, State Profile on Agro Food Processing Industries, Cluster Group Study report and In plant Study report on Pharmaceutical Industries in H.P., Feasibility Report on Ceramics Decoration by Screen Printing, Energy Audit, Study, Industry Trade Profile in Electronics of H.P., Product Growth Profile on T.V. Antenna (All India Basis), Technical Upgradation document on quality control, directory of R&D testing organisations and awareness documents were prepared and circulated during the year under report.

Modernisation Programme

The Institute conducted one cluster group study and one inplant study under the modernisation programme during the year under report. Pharmaceutical Industry was covered under this programme.

Assistance to District Industries Centres

The Institute conducted most of the training programmes like EDPs, Seminars, clinics, campaigns etc. in close association with the concerned DICs. The DICs were frequently visited by the officers of this Institute for providing assistance in the implementation of various programmes like self employment scheme for educated unemployed youths, preparation of project profiles, Action Plans etc. During the year, a coordination division in the Institute was created for smooth coordination and close linkages with DICs. The division attends to the needs and requirements of DICs in H.P. State. The Division has disseminated information on policies, programmes, incentives and technical literatures to all DICs.

Other Achievements

The meeting of State Level Reconstituted Advisory Committee attached to this Institute was arranged and the work plan of Institute was decided. Besides, the meeting of District Task Force Committees, State level Inter-Institutional Committee, district and State Level Bankers Committee, Advisory Committee to HPFC, HIMCON, STEP Rural Technology. Advisory Committees attached to Govtr. Polytechnics were attended and suggestions were given in the meeting.
