SISI Patna (Bihar)

Introduction

S.I.S.I. Patna caters to the needs of existing and prospective entrepreneurs of 19 districts in the Central part of Bihar. The districts falling under its operational jurisdiction are Bhoijpur, Rohtas, Gaya, Nalanda, Mawadah, Patna, Munger, Bhagalpur, Sahebganj, Godda, Dumka, Aurangabad and Jehanabad. Following 5 districts have also been carved out after re- organisation viz. Buxar from Bhojpur, Bhabhua from Rohtas, barh from Patna, Banka from Bhagalpur and Jamui from Munger. The existing 14 district Industries centres are looking after the working of the newly created districts in addition to their respective jurisdiction. There is no Branch Institute or Extension Centre attached to this Institute.

Workshop Facilities/Testings-job Conducted/Revenue Earned

Workshop attached to the Institute provides Common Facility Services to small scale industries in different fields. The Workshop is equipped with such machines as HMT Lathe, Milling Machine, Hydraulic Surface Grinder etc. Besides, it has got Tool Cutting Grinder, Drilling Machine, Sharper and Circular Saw as well. Common Facility Services were provided to 195 small scale units by carrying out 252 jobs and the Institute could earn a revenue of Rs. 91541/- during the year 1998-99.

Blue Prints/Drawings/Technical Publications etc. Prepared and Supplied

The Institute prepared 12 Project Profiles on different items. In addition, the Institute prepared one State Industrial Profile and updated 4 district Industrial Potential Surveys.

Consultancy Services Provided

The Institute provided Consultancy Services in the year 1998-99 in various disciplines to existing and prospective entrepreneurs as per details given in the following table:

Training & Seminars

a.Training

(i) EDP

Five EDP (Entrepreneurship Development Programmes) were organised in different DICs.  In addition, three one week EDP Programmes were organised and a total of 143 prospective entrepreneurs were trained. Under Motivational Campaign 794 prospective entrepreneurs were trained.

(ii) Industrial Management Training The Institute organised four Management Development Training Programmes for the benefit of representatives of existing small scale industries. Of these, 4 management courses were completed and 88 persons were trained. The Institute in collaboration with Indian Institute of Packaging, Calcutta organised a Training Programme on Packaging for Exports at Bhagalpur .

b. Seminar/Motivational Campaigns

i) The Institute organised an Intensive Industrial Motivational Campaign  at Munger which was attended by about 54 participants. ii) Another Industrial Awareness Programme was organised at Jamalpur.  Altogether 120 participants attended the programme.

Ancillary Development

During the year 1997-98 efforts were made for the development of ancillary industries in the State. 214 units were registered under BSCX.  This Institute has prepared the Directory of Ancillary Units registered with SCX.

Economic Investigation & Statistical Services

1. State Industrial Profile of the State of Bihar was updated and recast

2. In consultation with DIGs, the thrust industries were identified and lists were prepared for the information of the entrepreneurs and other Institutions concerned with development of small scale industries in the State.

3. Production Index The Institute continued to collect, compile and transmit the production data in respect of 95 sample units. The data was collected on Monthly basis and transmitted to DC (SSI) for preparation of All-India Production Index. The Institute also carried on collection of data in respect of 18 reserved items. These data was also compiled and transmitted to DC(SSI) on monthly basis. Economic & Statistical Data was passed on to various State Government Departments and Organisations as and when called for. The Institute continued to participate in the deliberations of the State Level Inter Institutional Committee (SLIIC) meetings convened by Reserve bank of India and presided over by the Industries Commissioner.

Assistance to District Industries Centres

Each D.I.C. has been placed under the charge of an officer of the Institute for keeping a close linkage and liaison with the concerned D.I.C. This officers were actively associated with the DIC for Self Employment Programmes and other developmental activities in the district and extended assistance as and when required. The specific problems of DICs were promptly looked into and solved. All the programmes conducted by the Institute for the entrepreneurs were organised in close liaison and in consultation with the D.I.C. officials. Industries Development Commissioner, Bihar convened meetings of all the General Managers of DICs every month and at his request officers from S.I.S.I. Patna participated in the meeting.

Assistance to SC/ST/Women/Weaker Sections Entrepreneurs

The Institute has been making all out efforts for effective participation of SC/ST/Women/ Weaker Section entrepreneurs in all its developmental activities. This is evident from the fact that in the training programme organised by the Institute as many as 30 S.C. Candidates, 84 women were trained. A list of the products which are suitable for manufacturing by women entrepreneurs was also prepared.

Achievements in respect of Pollution Control

The Institute advised 3 units to avoid pollution under the Pollution Control Scheme.One day Awareness cum Educational Workshop on Energy Conservation in Chemical and Ceramic and Glass Industries was organised at SISI, Patna in which 16 units were participated.
