SISI New Delhi

Introduction

Small Industries Service Institute, New Delhi with its jurisdiction of Union Territory of Delhi, District Faridabad in Haryana and Ghaziabad of U.P. including NOIDA, caters to the needs of existing small scale units and prospective entrepreneurs with an objective to strengthen and develop small scale industries. Besides, it provide common facilities including training, imparted to the delinquent children at its Extension Centre, Bal Sahyog, located at Connaught Place, New Delhi.

Workshop and Laboratories Services

The Institute has 5 comon facility workshops, which earned total revenue of Rs 7,73,032 by completing 255 job orders and provided skill development training to 144 trainees. In total 216 industrial units were benefitted from the common facility services at SISI, New Delhi. Balsahyog Extension Centre (BEC) situated at Connaught Place, New Delhi has 8 workshops in different trades. BEC earned revenue of Rs 2,34,954/- by completing 296 job orders and imparted training to 271 trainees including trainees of Balsahyog Home, New Delhi.

Technical Schemes, Blue prints/drawing etc. Prepared and Supplied

The Institute had prepared 58 project profiles on different items, which include General Engineering, Chemical, Hosiery, Leather, Glass & Ceramics, Electrical and Mechanical during the year 1997-98 under Action Plan Targets.

Consultancy Services Provided

The Institute and its extension centre continued to provide consultancy services to small scale industrial entrepreneurs in different fields and at different levels. Some of the important areas of consultancy services provided by the Institute during the year 1998-99 are as under:

Management Development Programme (MDP)

This Institute organised and conducted 10 Management Development Programmes during the year. The specialised courses were 2 Marketing Management, 2 Financial Management, 4 Export Management, 1 Packaging for Exports, and once course on Computer Training on MS Office. In all these training programmes, 351 participants have successfully undergone the training including 45 women and 21 SC/ST, 5 physically handicapped. The Institute earned a total revenue of Rs 4,06,700/-.

Entrepreneurship Development Programmes (EDP)

The Institute organised 2 EDPs, one on Fashion Garments and another on Food Processing Industries during the year. In all 113 persons were trained, a total revenue of Rs 2,46,500 was collected as course fee.

Economic Information, Statistical Services

THe Economic Investigation Division (EI) of the Institute disseminated economic information and guided the existing as well as prospective entrepreneurs on various projects in the area of investment, policy matter, techniques of compiling and dissemination of statistical data. During the year 1997-98 the Division attended 1019 number of marketing/ economic enquiries from prospective entrepreneurs and prepared 4 techno-economic feasibility report received through banks. A revenue of Rs 20,000/- was earned by way of the charges for techno-economic feasibility reports. Officers of the EI Division regularly attended 24 screening committee meetings to verify the applications of existing SSI units. 27 PMRY Task Force Committee meetins were also attended by the officers of the EI Division for interviewing the candidates of PMRY. In addition an officer of EI Division prepared a compendium on Availability of Credit for Industry, Services and Business.

Progress made in Ancillary Development, Export and Marketing

1. Tender enquiry processed in participation for assisting SSI units - 28 nos
2. Trade enquiry with business mission from Bergana, Italy - 1 no
3. SSI units registered in sub-contact exchange - 93 nos
4. Prepared Directory of Sub-Contract Exchange for the year 1997-98 - 1 no

Energy Conservation

The Institute continued its sincere efforts in achieving yet another milestone and designed energy efficient cooler pump motor which reduces energy consumption. The total input of such pumpset is 10 to 12 rpm with efficiency of 8% which is 16 times that of convenitional type cooler pump while keeping the same performance level.

Quality Control and Upgradation

SISI, New Delhi organised 7 days (ffull time) Training Programme on ISO-9000 quality Management System and TQM which was attended by 37 participants of very high profile top management people including 4 ladies and 5 army officers from various Government establishments and small scale units. Thus, generated revenue of Rs 91,000/-

Special Assistance to Women/SC/ST and Weaker Sections

131 SC/ST candidates, 122 women, 50 BCs, 6 physically handicapped and 30 defence personnel were trained in EDP/Management / Skill Development Training courses. In all 904 candidates were trained during the year which includes 610 general candidates.

Other Activities

1. The Institute took part in Trade Fairs held at London and Mexico. about 50 small scale units participated in this programme to display their samples.
2. Mr Peter Gillatly of Honolulu, USA and Mr Yumi Yamashita, Tokyo, Japan visited the Extension Centre, Balsahyog during the year under report. Looking after the function of the Centre, also aims and objectives, they were quite impressed.
3. Small Industriers Services Institute, Okhla, New Delhi participated in Vyapar Mela organised by Delhi State Industrial Developmetn Corporation at Kidwai Nagar ground. 30 small scale units had taken part alongwith their products.
