Introduction

Small Industries Service Institute, nagpur caters to the development and promotional needs of small scale industrial units of Vidarbha region of Maharashtra State. The Operational jurisdiction of SISI, Nagpur covers the entire Vidarbha Comprising of 9 districts, namely Akola, Amravati, Bhandaa, Buldana Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Nagpur, Wardha and Yavatmal.

Workshop Facilities/Testing Job Conducted/Revenue Earned

A common facility workshop attached to this Institute provides common facility services to SSI units and also imparts technical training to upgrade the technical skills of entrepreneurs/worker. The total number of jobs undertaken during the year 1998-99 was 312 by which the workshop earned a revenue of Rs. 10,287/-. A total of 23 SSI units were benefited by the services offered through the workshop.

Blue Print, drawing technical literature etc. prepared and supplied.

14 new project policies were prepared during the year 1998-99.

Training

Entrepreneurship Development Programme

Two Entrepreneurship Development Programmes were organised in the year 1998-99 in which 117 persons received training.  Two EDP motivation campaigns were also organised during the year. A total of 162 participants took part in these programmes.

Management Development Programmes

Four MDPs were conducted in 1998-99 in which 90 entrepreneurs were trained.

Ancillary Development/Marketing and Exports

b) Plant Level Committee Meetings

3 plant level committee meetings were held in large/medium scale units during the year 1998-99. One Vendor Development Programme was conducted which a total of 60 participants attended.

Marketing Assistance During the year 1998-99 a total of 10 existing SSI units were recommended to National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) Bombay for according single point registration to these units.

Export

This institute in collaboration with Indian Institute of Packing, Bombay organised a training programme on packaging for exports. A directory of exporting units of Vidarbha region was prepared during the year.

Economic Investigation/Statistical Services

i) District Industrial Potential Survey Reports

Two District Industrial Potential Survey Reports were prepared by the Institute during the year.

ii) Production Index (PI) Activities Production data from the selected small scale units of Vidarbha region collected on quarterly basis.

Assistance to DICs

Small Industries Service Institute, Nagpur maintained a close liaison with the DIC's of Vidarbha region through active participation in their programmes and provided assistance to them.

Assistance to SC/ST/Women/Weaker Sections Entrepreneurs

86 SC/ST and the women entrepreneurs attended the training courses organised by the Institute during the year 1998-99. Apart from the above many SC/ST women and the entrepreneurs belonging to weaker sections who approached the Institute were provided techno-managerial assistance as well as assistance to start new industry.

Other Achievements

a) Energy Conservation Three units were selected for the programme on energy conservation during the year 1998-99. Officers of this Institute alongwith a private consultant studied these units and certain recommendation were suggested to these units for conserving energy. One Energy Conservation-cum-Educational Workshop was organised during the year and 15 participants took part in the workshop

b) Cost reduction

Officers of this Institute assisted one unit in introducing corderite saggar for kiln furnitures in place of conventional fire claywares which resulted in conservation of energy and ultimately in reduction in cost of production for the unit.

c) Product/quality improvement

A unit was facing the problem of poor quality of the product and productivity. Officers of the Institute visited the unit and adjusted various equipments which ultimately resulted in the better quality and improvement in productivity.
