SISI Margao (Goa)

Introduction

SISI, Margao, Goa and the workshop attached to it are having the jurisdiction of the State of Goa comprising two districts namely North Goa and South Goa. SISI, Margao, Goa was established in the year 1962 as a branch institute, directly under DC (SSI).

Workshop Facilities

The general engineering workshop attached to the Institute undertook 553 jobs and earned a revenue of Rs. 45686/-. 110 small scale units have made use of workshop facilities during the year 1998-99 as compared to 40 jobs and a revenue of Rs. 7564 during 1991-92.

Blue Prints/Drawings, Technical Publications, Etc. Prepared & Supplied

During the year, the Institute prepared many project reports as given below:

a) Prepared 4 State Industrial profiles and updated one District Industrial Potential Survey
b) Prepared 6 Project Profiles for new items and updated 9 Project Profiles

Consultancy Services Rendered

The details of various types of consultancy services rendered by the Institute during 1998-99 are given below:

Assistance to existing units 
- Technical

Training and Seminars

(i) EDP
- The General Entrepreneurship Development Programme of one month duration for the educated unemployed youth was organised by the Institute. A total number of 24 candidates successfully completed the training programme, including 7 women.
- An Entrepreneurship Development Programme on Food Processing exclusively for women was organised by the Institute. All 30 women enrolled successfully completed the training programme. The training programme was conducted with faculty support from Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Goa. The Institute earned revenue of Rs 7500/- by way of course fee.
- An EDP on Screen Printing was conducted by the Institute. Out of 43 candidated enrolled 39 candidates successfully completed the training including 11 women. The Institute earned a revenue of Rs 10750/- by way of course fee.

(ii)  Management Development Programmes
- A short term Management Development Programme was organised by the Institute at GIDC Hall, Bicholim Industrial Estate. A total number of 27 candidates from small and medium scale industries attended the training programme. Certificates were distributed to all 27 candidates including 5 women.
- The second short term Industrial Management Development Programme was organised by the Institute at Mapusa Industrial Estate. A total number of 14 candidates including a woman underwent the training programme.

Seminars/Workshops etc. Conducted

Two days training programme on ISO-9000, system documentation, Calibration procedure was organised. The training programme was organised with faculty support from RTC Bombay. A total number of 32 candidates from SSI units and export oriented units attended the training programme.

Buyer - Seller Meet (Vendor Development)

A Vendor Development Programme was organised by the Institute in Black Box of Kala Academy, Panaji. The programme was sponsored by the Small Industries Bank of India. About 100 representatives from small scale industries including NRIs and prospective entrepreneurs participated in the programme.

Advisory Committee Meeting

i) Two meetings of the Advisory Committee attached to the Institute were convened during the year.
ii) Assisted Directorate of Industries and Mines in the implementation of PMRY and training of beneficiaries under the scheme. The officers of the Institute attended 16 Task Force Committee meetings to select beneficiaries under the scheme. And two training programmes were organised for the beneficiaries.
iii) Prepared an Appraisal Report in respect of proposed small scale unit referred to this office by State Social Advisory Board.
iv) Sub Contract Exchange was started under ancillary development.

Assistance to DICs

The DIC was assisted by the Institute in its various day to day works like registration, assessment of capacity for the allotment of scarce and controlled raw materials & fuels identification of beneficiaries under SEEUY programme, sample survey of s.s. units, etc.

Training for the beneficiaries under PMRY

i) The training of beneficiaries under Prime Minister's Rojagar Yojana for the beneficiaries of South Goa District is taken up by the Institute from this year. 19 candidates under Business/Service category and 5 candidates under Industry category underwent training programmes successfully. Under the second batch, 18 candidates under Business/Service category and 4 candidates under Industry category successfully completed the training programme. The officers of the Institute attended 16 Task Force Committee Meetings to select beneficiaries under the scheme.

ii) Technical officers of the Institute assessed the capacity of 26 units using controlled raw materials like LPG, alcohol etc.

iii) 9 units were inspected for registration under Govt Purchase Scheme.
