Small Industries Service Institute, Kanpur & its branch at Haldwani (District-Nainital) with a jurisdiction of 26 districts of Uttar Pradesh and expertise in the Economic Investigation, Industrial Management & Training, Chemical Mechanical, Electrical & Glass & Ceramics, Leather & Footwear & Modernisation provides comprehensive range of techno-managerial consultancy services to small scale industries in its jurisdiction.

Workshop Facilities

The Mechanical Workshops attached to SISIs, Kanpur & Branch Haldwani and Heat-Treatment shop attached to SISI, Kanpur undertook 239 intricate jobs for 125 SSI units. This way the workshop earned a revenue of Rs. 73,543/- during 1997-98.

Blue Prints Drawings Technical Publications Prepared

The SISI, Kanpur and its branch SISI Haldwani prepared/ updated as many as 61 project profiles for the guidance of prospective entrepreneurs in selecting suitable items for production against the total target of 58 project profiles.

Consultancy Services Provided

The Institute and its branch provided technical and managerial consultancy to 6530 prospective entrepreneurs/ new units, as detailed below:-

Training & Seminars

E.D.P. Courses

During the year under report, the SISI kanpur and its branch at Haldwani organised 12 EDPs each for one month duratino at various places like Banda, Kanpur, Lucknow and Haldwani in which 344 persons were imparted training. Out of these programmes, one course was organised exclusively for women entrepreneurs at Lucknow whereas one course was organised exclusively for physically handicapped persons at Lucknow. Among the trainees, 42 candates were belonging to SC, 6 to ST, 99 were women entrepreneurs and 30 were physically handicapped. A total revenue of Rs 97,050/- was earned including Rs 2,050/- from Branch SISI, Haldwani through the courses.

Management Development Programme

With a view to updating the management skill, the SISI Kanpur and Branch SISI Haldwani organised 10 MDPs during the year 1997-98. As many as 226 entrepreneurs / industrialists were imparted training out of which 17 persons belonged to SC, 12 women entrepreneurs and 209 were other persons. A revenue of Rs 60,125/- was earned from these courses.

Motivational Campaign

SISI Kanpur and Branch SISI Haldwani organised 7 Motivational Campaigns one each at Lucknow, Lakhimpur Kheri and Banda and 2 each at Kanpur and Sitapur in which 497 participants were provided information for setting up their industry. They were rendered technical guidance also on the spot. Among these participants, 28 belonged to SC, 7 to ST, 3 were women, 14 were physically handicapped and 183 were others.

Ancillary Development/Market/Exports

Registration of 60 SSI units with the Sub-Contracting Exchange of SISI, Kanpur was done. Fifty cases for registration under Central Govt. Stores Purchase Programme were studied and recommended to N.S.I.C.

Economic Activities

a) The State Profile on U.P. was updated.
b) Industrial Potentiality Survey for 5 Districts viz. Farukhabad, Shajahanpur,Lakhimpur Kheri, Pithoragarh and Rae Bareli were undertaken.
c) Thrust Industries in respect of 33 districts falling under the jurisdiction of SISI, Kanpur were revised and updated.
d) Market Survey on 61 items were conducted.
e) The E.I. officers provided economic & Statistical information and assistance in selection of product to 263 persons.
f) Besides, the officers of the Division coordinated various activities like core programme targets & achievements, PMRY, enquiries received from DC(SSI), New Delhi, Central and State Government Departments etc. Coordination within the SISI and with other Govt Depts was also made by the Division.

Assistance to DICs

All the 26 districts falling under the jurisdiction of SISI, Kanpur were allotted to individual officers for the purpose of close-liaison between SISI & DICs. These SISI Officers took part in the various meetings and programmes conducted by DICs, the main being the meetings of Distt. Task Forces (for selection of beneficiaries of Self-Employment Schemes) and District Udyog Bandhu (for solution of the problems of SSI Units).

The SISI also assisted DICs. in the conducting E.D.P. training courses.

It also supplied schemes and other technical information to the DICs. whenever requested.

Assistance to SC/ST/Weaker section Entrepreneurs

In pursuance of Govt of India policy to encourage persons belonging to SC/ST, Weaker Sections and Women Entrepreneurs to become self-dependent economically, the SISI Kanpur and Branch SISI Haldwani provided assistance to 87 persons belonging to SC, 13 ST and 114 women entrepreneurs during the year 1997-98. They were imparted training and provided information to set up their own industry.

Energy Conservation

Energy conservation awareness training programmes were conducted by the SISI, Kanpur.

The SISI, Kanpur, in collaboration with the National Productivity Council, Kanpur, organised Energy Audit & Conservation Guidance Programme. The lectures and demonstration were attended by 15 entrepreneurs. A revenue of Rs 1500 was earned.

Pollution Control

A one day Awareness & Motivational Campaign on 'Cleaner Production and Waste Minisation in Leather Tanning Industry' was organised by this Institute in collaboration with UP Leather Industries Association, Kanpur.

Export Promotion

The Institute organised 2 courses on Export Marketing at Kanpur in which 49 entrepreneurs/ industrialists were imparted training. The trainees were provided with the information relating to export marketing, documentation etc.
