SISI Jammu (J&K)

Introduction

Small Industries Service Institute, Srinagar, is functioning at Jammu due to prevailing circumstances in Kashmir Valley. This Institute and its branch at Jammu provides techno-managerial, economic and marketing services to prospective and existing entrepreneurs. The entrepreneurs are guided in product identification & diversification, selection of machinery and their procurement and preparation of project profiles and reports. The jurisdiction of the SISI is over State of Jammu and Kashmir which consists of 14 districts viz Srinagar, Budgam, Pulwama, Baramulla, Kupwara, Anantnag, Leh, Kargil in Kashmir province and Jammu, Kathua, Udhampur, Poonch, Rajouri, Doda in Jammu province.

Workshop Facilities/Testing Jobs Conducts/revenue Earned

Common facility workshop at Srinagar is practically not functioning since 1990 and therefore no revenue is earned.

The workshop at Jammu during 1997-98 undertook 105 jobs, benefiting 101 SSI units and earned a revenue of Rs. 70,120/-. These figures for 1991-92 were 269 jobs benefiting 221 SSI units with a revenue of Rs. 14683/-.

Reports Prepared

i) Seminar-cum-Workshop on quality upgradation of Engineering products with main emphasis on breech loading shot gun.

ii) Technical Report on prospect of glass and ceramic industry in J & K State.

iii) Status report on Engineering industry in general.

iv) State profile on Agro-based Industries.

v) Status report on steel re-rolling Industry.

vi) Directory of electronic industry.

vii) Industrial Profile of J & K State.

Besides, seventeen project profiles were prepared/updated during the year. The project profiles are on engineering, food products, leather and glass and ceramic items.

Consultancy Service Provided

A total of 1395 prospective entrepreneurs were provided assistance to during the year 1998-99. The details of Technical, Managerial, Marketing assistance for the year 1995-96 is given below:

Training & Seminars

The institute organised following training courses/seminars during the year 1995-96:

i) Four technical training courses (two each in Machinist & Fitter) were conducted in the workshop attached to branch SISI Digiane, Jammu. 18 entrepreneurs have been benefited through these trainings. Among these 15 candidates, 3 belonged to Scheduled Caste category.

ii) Seminar-cum-Workshop on quality upgradation of Engineering products with special emphasis on breech loading shot gun was organised in collaboration with Gun Manufacturers Association, Jammu and Directorate of Industries and Commerce, J&K and Bureau of India Standards, New Delhi.

iii) Two EDP programmes for SEEUY beneficiaries each of one week duration were conducted at Poonch and Rajouri districts. Total of 106 candidates were trained, including 10 women and 3 ST candidates. These Programmes were organised in collaboration with District Industries Centre of the respective districts.


Modernisation Programme

Under modernisation programme, a technology transfer document on manufacture of Breech Loading shot guns (single of double barrel) was prepared during the year.

Ancillary Development/Marketing and Export

The Institute prepared a directory of export worthy units for the benefit of small scale units. Copies of directory were sent to other Institutes, and established marketing agencies and export house. As a result thereof, 89 units were introduced to exporters in Bombay, Delhi and Calcutta. Eight ancillary units of HMT Limited, supplied components worth Rs. 23.06 lakhs. 145 enquiries from public and private sector units were processed by SCX. These enquiries were sent to small scale units under marketing assistance programme. During the year under review, 132 units were registered with SCX.

Economic Investigation/Statistical Services

Apart from providing economic consultancy to the existing and new industries, EI division prepared the followingsurvey reports to tap the industrial potential at the State/ District level:

1. State Industrial profile

2. Industrial Potential Survey report of Rajouri district

3. Industrial Potential Survey report of Udhampur district

4. Industrial Potential Survey report of Jammu district

Project Profiles

Project profiles prepared by different divisions of the Institute under the Action Plan 1998-99 as Mechanical Division (5), Metallurgical Division (6), Chemical Division (3), Leather Division (2), Electrical Division (3), Food Division (4), Ancillary Division (3).

Training and Seminars

The Institute organised following training courses/ seminars during the year.

1) The meeting on "Woman Entrepreneurs Programme" organised by the Woman Development Cell, Directorate of Industries and Commerce (J&K)

2) A Seminar, organised by PHD Chamber of Commerce, Director (SISI) (J&K) presented a paper on "Industry & Business Opportunities in the State of J&K".

3) District Level Review Committee meeting was held and presided by the District Development Commissioner.

4) State level Review Committee held by Directorate of Industries Commerce (J&K) on various issues related to sick units were discussed.

5) Two RLC meetings were held during this year.

The Institute conducted two MDP at Jammu, total 32 numbers participated. Besides this the Institute conducted five EDP during the year 1998-99 and 432 entrepreneurs were trained, including 32 women. Apart from this during the year 1998-99 this Institute organised two ISO 9000 Awareness Programmes and one day Awareness Workshop to phase out ozone depleting substances in collaboration with Jammu Refrigeration Association - Jammu.

Assistance to SC/ST Women Weaker Sections Entrepreneurs

Skill development training course conducted at workshop imparted training in fitter trade to three SC/ST candidates.

During the Entrepreneurial Development Programmes conducted at Poonch and Rajouri, 26 women and 3 ST candidates were trained.

Awareness & Training on Waste Minimisation

One day awareness cum training programme on waste minimisation and cleaner production for Foundries and Rolling Mills was held at Jammu.

SCX for Association of SS Industries, Jammu

Association of Small Scale Units Jammu have been accorded sanction by DC(SSI) New Delhi for setting up SCX.
