Introduction
Small Industries Services Institute in the State of Rajasthan was set
up at Jaipur on 14th January, 1958 to provide technical, economic,
managerial and marketing consultancy services to promote
entrepreneurship and to assist new as well as existing entrepreneurs to
run their small scale units successfully. The services of the Institute
are free except some activities for which now, some nominal charges are
levied. The Institute has its Workshop at jaipur where Common Facility
Services are provided on nominal charges, to small scale units. The
workshop is providing Common Facility Services since 1961.
Workshop Facilities/Testing Jobs Conducted/Revenue Earned
Common facility services are available in the Institute Workshop at
Jaipur. During the year 1998-99, a total of 339 jobs were undertaken
benefiting 294 small scale units. The Workshop also earned a revenue of
Rs. 2,75,409/- for the year under report. During 1997-98, 224 jobs were
undertaken for 198 units and revenue work Rs. 1,65,122/- was earned.

The details of Project Profiles, Designs, Drawings, Blue Prints and
other technical literature/reports prepared by the Institute are given

Project Profiles
The officers of the Institute prepared Projects on 17 new items and
also updated 17 project profiles prepared earlier by the Institute in
the year 1997-98. These project profiles also include marketing
prospects of the products.
Designs, Drawings and Blue Prints
4 designs, 69 drawings were prepared and supplied to the SSI units
during 1997-98.
Other Technical Literature
The Institute prepared technical literature like Industrial Directories
and 3 Status Reports.
Sale of Publications
During the year 1997-98 report SIDO/SISI publications worth Rs. 7825/-
were sold to the prospective as well as existing entrepreneurs.
Consultancy Services Provided
The Small Industries Service Institute, Jaipur and its Workshop
provided technical and other consultancy services in 1998-99 to small
entrepreneurs in Rajasthan as per details given below:-

Ancillary Marketing and Exports
a) Ancillary Development
To develop ancillary units in the State, the Institute has been
assisting the SSI units by way of organising plant level Committee
Meetings, Vendor Development Programmes, Preparation of Project Reports
on Ancillary items and registering Ancillary units with Sub Contracting
Exchange.
During the year, the Institute undertook the following activities for
ancillarisation in the State:

b) Marketing Development
The Institute provides assistance to SSI units in marketing their
products in domestic and international markets by way of recommending
the cases of SSI uniyts for single point registration under Government
Stores Purchase Programme (GSPP), organising Buyers Sellers meets,
vendor development programmes and organising and participating in
exhibitions.
During the year 1997-98, the Institute scrutinised and recommended 52
cases of SSI units to NSIC for registration under GSPP and earned
revenue of Rs 37,000/- as levy charges.
Economic Investigation/Statistical Services
a) Economic Investigation
i) Industrial State Profile: The Institute updated Industrial State
Profile during the year.
ii) Industrial Potentiality Surveys: To help the entrepreneurs in
selection of product lines, identifying surplus resources for industrial
exploitation, infrastructural gaps and employment opportunities, the
Institute conducted 6 Industrial Potentiality Surveys of districts
Alwar, Bunid, Dausa, Karauli, Jodhpur and Sirohi during the year.
iii) DIC Action: Identification of Thrust Industries: Against the DIC
Action Plan, the Institute updated the list of Thrust Industries in
respect of all 32 districts of the State for the guidance of prospective
entrepreneurs.
iv) The Institute prepared Market Survey Reports in respect of 4 items
for inclusion in the Project Profiles.
v) Market Studies: The Institute also conducted Market Studies and
prepared reports on Readymade Garments, Marble Tiles and Slabs and
Leather Footwear during the year.
vi) Economic Investigation Division coordinated the work relating to
Appraisal and Evaluation of Project Reports and Capacity Assessment of
SSI units during the year as mentioned below:
1) Appraisal of Financial cases - 29 nos Revenue earned Rs 2,50,000/-
2) Capacity Assessment - 17 nos Revenue earned Rs 16,500/-
b) Sick Units Identified/Revived
There are 1,505 sick units identified by financial institutes as on
30.9.97. Out of these 139 units found viable and 22 recommended to
rehabilitation. Cases of 21 viable units yet to be decided.
c) Statistical Services
Statistical information in respect of 2% PI and 18 reserved items were
collected, compiled and sent to Development Commissioner (SSI) New
Delhi. During the year under report 325 return in respect of 2% PI items
and 605 returns in respect of 18 reserved items were prepared and sent
to DC (SSI), New Delhi.
Assistance to DICs
i) The Small Industries Service Institute, Jaipur is working for the
development of small scale units in Rajasthan in close co- ordination
with DICs in the State and directly or indirectly organising various
Development Programmes, EDPs and Seminars etc. To have a close
co-ordination with DICs, the Institute has nominated an officer to each
DIC of the State. The designated Officer actively participated in the
meetings of District Level Advisory Committee and Task Force Committee
metings. During the year the Officers of the Institute participated in
45 meetings of Task Force and District Level Advisory Committee
Meetings.
Besides, the Officers of the Institute participated in the 4 Industrial
Motivational Campaigns organised by DICs at different places.
ii) PMRY
The Officers of the Institute participated in Task Force Committee
meetings held for recommending beneficiaries to Financial Institutions.
During the year 1997-98, the Officers of the Institute attended 35 Task
Force meetings at various DICs.
iii) The Institute organised training programmes for the benefit of
selected beneficiaries under PMRY scheme. during the year, the Institute
conducted three such training programmes of ten days duration. The

Assistance to ST/SC/Women/Weaker Sections Entrepreneurs
This Institute is organising various training programmes especially for
SC/ST, Women and Weaker sections of society. During the year 1997-98,
the Institute organised 6 one month EDP programmes exclusively for
women.
The Institute also conducted a 10 days Industrial Management Programme
for SC candidates, wherein 65 SC candidates including 18 women attended
the programme. An Awareness Programme on Waste Minimisation, Cleaner
Production and Pollution Control on Leather Industry was also organised
at Jaipur. 35 persons from SC class attended the programme. In all 138
persons belonging to SC/ST class attended the various training
programmes.
18 persons from minority and 30 other backward class participated in
different EDPs and Management Development Programmes organised by the
Institute during the year 97-98.
Besides 21 women candidates attended various Management Programmes
conducted by the Institute.
Energy Conservation and Pollution Control
The pollution in Industry is a major problem being faced by the SSI
units nowadays. It has been the constant approach of the Institute to
play an important role in controlling pollution.
Quality Control and Upgradation
To upgrade the technology and quality of the products in order to meet
competition, the Institute organised various seminars and Awareness
programmes for quality improvement and upgradation.
