SISI Imphal (Manipur)

Introduction

Small Industries Service Institute, Imphal continues to cater to the promotional need of small scale and ancillary industries in the States of Manipur and Nagaland. It provides extension and consultancy services to the entrepreneurs and small scale industries of this region. It extends its services to the State of Nagaland through its Branch Small Industries Service Institute, Dimapur.

Workshop: Facilities Available / Testing Jobs Conducted / Revenue Earned

There are two workshops one each attached to SISI, Imphal and Branch SISI, Dimapur (Nagaland). The workshop attached to SISI, Imphal extends common facility services in Machine shop practices, Carpentry, Tools and Cutter grinding and Welding, in addition to giving training to the local youths. The workshop of Br. SISI, Dimapur also extends similar-facilities in the State of Nagaland. The Workshops undertook jobs and earned a revenue of Rs. 14,655 during 1998-99.

Blue Prints Drawings Technical Publications etc. Prepared and Supplied

During the year 22 project profiles and technical reports were prepared by the Institute and supplied to various entrepreneurs. This included reports on Food Processing and Training Centre for VVD, Ukhrul, scope of Chemical Industry and scope in Manipur, feasibility and scope of Glass & Ceramic industry in North Eastern Region. Various State Government Departments in Imphal. In addition, other reports prepared by the Institute are:

Consultancy Services Provided

The services rendered by SISI, Imphal and Branch SISI, Dimapur extended to imparting techno-economic and managerial assistance. The details for the year 1998-99 are:

Training and Seminars

Training

i) Technical Training: SISI, Imphal conducted 1 technical training of six months duration in which 5 candidates were trained. Similar training was also provided by Br. SISI, Dimapur to 5 candidates.

ii) EDPs: Three EDP programmes were conducted by SISI Imphal in which 69 entrepreneurs were trained, including 44 ST and 2 SC.

iii) MDPs: SISI Imphal conducted by SISI Imphal where 82 entrpreneurs were trained.

Ancillary Development/Marketing & Exports

The Institute displayed various items, important from the point of view of ancillary development, in an exhibition organised by the State Govt. at Imphal. The two potential mother units were identified. A State Level Ancillary Guidance Committee meeting was also held under the chairmanship of Secretary, Industries.

Under marketing assistance one unit was assisted in getting registration under 'Single Point Registration Scheme of NSIC.

To promote exports from this region, the Institute organised a get-together on 'Procedures for Exports' in Collaboration with 'CHEMEXCIL', Calcutta. Training programme on 'Packaging for export' was organised by SISI, Imphal benefiting 23 entrepreneurs.

Economic Investigation/Statistical

Economic investigation division of the Institute serves as data bank for other divisions which prepare techno-economic reports. In addition to its routine functions like preparation of Monthly Progress reports, collection of data this division prepared reports on State Industrial Profiles of Manipur and Nagaland, District Industrial Potential Surveys of Imphal and Senapati, report on identification of thrust industries of Manipur and Nagaland. It also carried out sick unit study for rehabilitation of one unit.

Assistance to DICs

SISI Officers helped the DICs in selection of SEEUY beneficiaries. Officers of SISI maintain a close liaison with each DIC and help them in implementation of their programmes. DICs are also assisted in clarifying various points on policy matters and in supplying various schemes and technical literature. SISI Officers also attended meetings convened by DIC to help them in taking decisions on various technical/Managerial matters. Assistance also provided to DICs in Registration of units by way of inspecting the units.
