SISI Hyderabad (AP)

Introduction

Small Industries Service Institute, Hyderabad was established in the year 1958 with an objective of promoting small scale industries in the State. The Institute alongwith its Branch Institute at Visakhapatnam and Field Testing Station, Sanathnagr, Hyderabad is functioning in the State for the benefit of Small Scale Industries.

Workshop Facilities/Testing Jobs Conducted/Revenue Earned

The facilities available with its Branch Institute and Field Testing Station, Hyderabad under the Jurisdiction of SISI, Hyderabad provide a wide range of services like testing i.e. paints varnishes and detergents etc. The workshop and its Branch SISI Visakhapatnam and FTS performed 441 jobs and 2167 tests.

The details of the revenue earned during 1997-98 are:

During the year 1997-98 SISI, Hyderabad along with its Branch prepared 77 project profiles and 2 industry profile reports.

Consultancy Services Provided

Small Scale Units and prospective entrepreneurs were given consultancy services in technical-Managerial- Economics/Statistical etc. The details of such consultancy are as under:

Training and Seminars

1For the year 1997-98, SISI Hyderabad was allotted a target of conducting 29 Training Programmes and 4 Motivation Campaigns. Against this target, the Institute conducted 41 training programmes and three motivation campaigns. The breakup is as follows:

Seminar Organised

SISI organised the following seminars/workshops/campaigns during 1997-98

1. Branch SISI Vishakhapatnam, in association with SIDBI, Vishakhapatnam Branch organised a Seminar on 'Awareness of Total Quality Management and ISO9000"

2. The Branch SISI Vishakhapatnam in association with SIDBI Vizag and the Council of Small Industries, vizag organised a two day seminar on "Vendor Development in the Small Scale Sector".

3. SISI Hyderabad was actively associated with the Govt of A.P and the CII in organising 'Linkage-97', an exhibition cum seminar to help enterprises in search of business partnerships, by participating in joint ventures. Main area of focus was the automobile industry, electronics and telecommunications, special purpose machines etc. SISI facilitated participants of around 200 units.

4. A two day workshop on Entrepreneurship Development and project formulation was organised by SISI Hyd in association with the Jute Service Centre.

5. SISI Hyd organised an energy conservation programme in association with the Centre for Plant Engineering and Services at the Institute's premises.

6. SISI Hyd organised a programme on internal auditing for ISO 9000 Quality Control Systems for 20 entrepreneurs.

7. A one day awareness campaign on 'Quality Control and Standardisation' was organised by Branch SISI Vizag in association with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) at Vizag, benefitting 30 entrepreneurs.

8. In association with SIDBI, Hyderabad, A.P Small Industry Association and the South Central Railway, SISI Hyderabad organised a vendor development programme for the SC Railway. About 200 entrepreneurs participated.

Ancillary Development Marketing & Exports

The identification of small scale units capable of functioning as ancillaries to medium/large scale units by the Institute has bridged the gap between these sectors. The number of captive ancillary units in the state is 252 during the year 1997-98.

Economic Investigation/Statistical Services

The Institute has conducted Industrial Potentiality Survey in 4 districts of the State viz. Chittoor, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagram and Mahboobnagar. The detailed survey reports were also prepared.


77 Market survey reports were prepared for products for which new and updated project profiles were given by the technical sections of the Institute.

The State Profile was updated for the year 1998-99. The latest Industrial and Economic Scenario prevailing in the State and the Institutional support being extended to the entrepreneurs is highlighted therein.

The Institute has studied cases of sick units and submitted the reports to the agencies concerned. Besides this, three techno-economic viability reports referred to the Institute by various commercial banks were also taken up.

Quarterly Production Index Data: PI data of 108 units and monthly returns from 16 units were sent regularly during the year 1997-98.

Feasibility Reports: Appraisal and Feasibility Reports of 4 units were prepared by SISI during 97-98 at the request of units/ financial institutions.Copies of reports were submitted to all concerned.

Assistance to DICs

During the year, SISI assisted various DICs in the State by extending full cooperation in organising the Industrial campaigns, Task Force committee meetings, advisory committee meetings, etc. at the District Level. Technical Training in Skill Development courses through Mobile vans was provided at the instance of the DICs in the districts. The production capacities were assessed the thereby their raw material requirements we arrived at by the officers of the Institute together with offices from several DICs of the State for recommending for the allocation of scarce material to the small scale units of the State.

Assistance to SC/ST/Women/Weaker Sections Entrepreneurs

Four EDPs were organised exclusively for women during the year 1997-98. In all 156 women were trained including 74 persons belonging to SC/ST and 23 to minority communities.

Export Promotion

SISI assists existing SSI units in participating in international trade fairs and exhibitions. Export related information, like trade enquiries, raw material suppliers etc is also made available to SSI entrepreneurs. During the year SISI assisted 30 entrepreneurs in participating in trade fairs/ exhibitions at Hanoi, Johannesburg, Moscow,. Export related information was given to 36 entrepreneurs. 48 entrepreneurs/ prospective entrepreneurs were trained under "Export Procedures and Documentation" course.
