Modernisation Programme
There are a good number of Printing Press units in Sikkim and this
Printing Industry constitutes the only cluster group. Efforts were made
to motivate a few of these units to opt for modernisation.
Ancillary Development/Marketing & Exports
All the four Districts of Sikkim have been declared as No Industry
Districts. Industrial Development has not taken place to any great
extent in as much as there is hardly any potential mother units which
could help ancillarisation. However, all the existing units in the
medium sector have been approached for ancillary development. A few
items have been identified and their viability is under study.
Economic Investigation & Statistical Services
Updating of state industrial profile and of district potential survey
in respect of Sikkim were carried out. Besides these routine data
collection activities were carried out.
Assistance to DICs
There are two DICs in the State--each one looking after two Districts.
The State being very small in size as also in population, the DICs have
not been vested with any powers in the ares of SSI Development viz.
registration etc. All powers are vested with the Industries Department,
headed by Director Industries.
Assistance to SC/ST/Women/Weaker Sections Entrepreneurs
The EDP training conducted in the year benefitted 5 SC, 4 ST, 12 OBC
and 15 women candidates.
