SISI Allahabad (UP)

Introduction

SISI, Allahabad, set-up in the year 1956, at Allahabad with its Branch at Maduadiah, Varanasi, provides Techno-Economic & Managerial services to entrepreneurs of Eastern U.P. It has facilities to train personnel from the industry in the product/process oriented training and provides extension services to small scale industries through its common facilities workshops located at Naini Industrial Estate, Allahabad and Maduadih Industrial Estate, Varanasi and Electronic Laboratory at Industrial Estate, Naini, Allahabad.

The jurisdiction of SISI Allahabad extends to the eastern region of U.P., comprising of 20 districts out of which 15 are industrially backward.

Workshop facilities/testing jobs conducted/revenue earned

SISI, Allahabad provides common facilities and training in the field of machining, grinding, fitting and heat treatment, blue print reading and Br. SISI, Varanasi has facilities in general engineering, heat treatment, machineship fitting and blue print reading. Facilities for making better punch, dies, jigs, fixtures, tools and prototype for new items for small scale units are also available at both the centres. SISI, Allahabad has also the facility of Electronic Laboratory for providing the common facilities like testing and calibration of electronic items/equipments as well as undertaking development projects besides giving demonstration on electronics and electrical instrument.

During the year 1998-99 the workshops undertook 258 jobs benefitting 215 units and earned revenue worth Rs.95,743.

Blue Prints, Drawings, Technical Publications, etc. Prepared and Supplied

During the period under report, 38 technical schemes and a number of sketches, charts, drawings, blue prints were prepared and supplied to entrepreneurs. One month part time Blue Print reading Course was also conducted at SISI Allahabad wherein 25 candidates were trained.

Consultancy Services

3244 prospective entrepreneurs and existing small scale units took the benefit of consultancy services provided by the Institute during the year 1997-98.

Training and Seminars

Training

The Institute organised various types of training programmes in the form of Motivational Campaigns, Process and Product Oriented Entrepreneurship Development programmes, Management Development Programmes, Technical Programmes and Skill Development Training Programmes. Special technical training programmes for rural youth and rural women were organised for State Govt under their central schemes of TRYSEM and DWAKRA. Training was given in various trades like electrician, motor winding, radio and TV repairing, washing soap and detergent etc.

The Institute organised four motivation campaigns which were well attended. These campaigns were aimed at motivating the unemployed boys and girls to take up self employment activities.

Entreprenurship Development Programme

The Institute organised eight EDPs, the details of which are:

1. The first course was organised at Gorakhpur for the manufacture of herbal cosmetics, chemicals and fancy leather items. Demonstrations were given on the manufacture of face cream, shampoos, detergent, floor cleaning liquid, liquid detergents etc. Under fancy leather items demonstration was given for leather purses, key cases, spectacle cases, school bags, leather belts etc. This course was attended by 56 candidates of whom 6 were SC/ST, 16 were women candidates. A total revenue of Rs 15,900/- was generated from the participation fee from the trainees.

2. Second third and fourth courses were organised on Desk Top Publishing at Allahabad, Faizabad and Azamgarh and Gorakhpur. In these courses 115 candidates were trained, 10 were SC/ST candidates and 32 women.

3. The fifth EDP course was organised on repairing and servicing of Consumer Electronic products at Allahabad. This course was attended by 15 candidates out of whom 2 belonged to SC/ST.

Modernisation Programme

Following modernisation programmes were organised by the Institute during the year 1997-98:

A Status Report on herbal drugs has been prepared which covers the positions of herbal drug industries in Eastern UP

A modernisation guide on steel furniture industry has been prepared

A report on manuals of quality circles has been prepared

A unit has been assisted in the manufacture of clutch plates

Five units have been assisted for preparation of documents for Total Quality Management System.

Ancillary Development/Marketing & Export
a) Marketing Support and Subcontracting

a) One unit is being assisted for tie up with carpet manufacturers of Bhadohi for development of packaging material

b) Steps have been initiated for setting up of a Sub-Contract Exchange at Allahabad. some equipment like computer and photostat machine have been procured and the steps are being taken to register the units with Sub-contract Exchange.

c) Two units were assisted in a tie up for supply of packaging material to a mother unit.

d) Under the scheme "Establishment of Sub-Contract Exchange by NG's / Industry Associations" sponsored by SC(SSI) New Delhi, the Institute has been assisting Eastern UP Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Allahabad to set up SCX at Allahabad. The proposal of Chamber has already been accepted by the empowereed committee and financial sanction provided. The Chamber has purchased equipment to the extent of Rs 3.20 lacs so far, and has started rendering services to member SSIs.

e) During the current financial year 18 small scale units were recommended under single point registration scheme of NSIC for participation in Central Government Purchase Programme.

f) As part of Vendor Development Activity, Vendor Development Programmes at Allahabad and Varanasi as ISO 9000 Awareness Workshops. Main thrust in these workshops was on making aware the vendors of large scale units, who either have obtained ISO 9000 certification or are in the process of obtaining the certification, to make them aware of importance of ISO 9000 certification for quality reliability.

b) Export Promotion Programme

Two Export Marketing management Programmes were organised at Gorakhpur and Varanasi under MDP. 72 candidates participated in these courses, out of whom 6 belong to SC/ST category and 5 were women.

Economic Investigation/Statistical Services

Industrial Potentiality Survey reports of six districts namely Bhadohi, Sonebhadra, Gorakhpur, Padrauna, Deoria and Maharajganj were prepared. The reports of Bhadohi and Sonebhadra have been separately prepared. The report of Gorakhpur, Padrauna, Deoria and Maharajganj have been prepared as a Divisional Level report.

Market Survey Report on 5 items have been prepared.

Monthly Production Data/ Quarterly Production Data in respect of 27 units was regularly collected on monthly and quarterly basis and sent to DC(SSI) New Delhi and SISI, Kanpur for compilation of data for whole state.

Monitoring of PMRY of 5 districts was carried out. Liaison was maintained with DIC's and coordinated with the officers of various banks with a view to continuous monitoring of PMRY schemes.

Monitoring of specialised bank branches for SSI's at Varanasi was regularly carried out.

Assistance to DICs

Officers of the Institute participated in Zila Paradhikrit Samiti Meetings as member in the district/zonal district under the jurisdiction of SISI and for finalising the cases of small scale units.

Officers of the Institute attended Task Force Committee meeting under PMRY scheme of different DICs and identified/ selected candidates.

Officers of the Institute delivered lecture in EDPs organised by different DICs,

The Institute rendered technical assistance to the prospective entrepreneurs/ existing entrepreneurs refererred by DIC.

Technical schemes were provided to DICs on their request.

The Institute organised campaigns with active collaboration of DICs.

The Director, SISI, Allahabad as a member of the committee for award of best unit in the Division assisted Joint Director of Industries, Allahabad Division in selection of unit for award.

Assistance to ST/SC/Women/Weaker Sections Entrepreneurs

This Institute is regularly providing technical assistance/organising the EDP programme for SC/ST/Weaker section entrepreneurs. Programmes conducted in the year were:

a) One Process & Product oriented EDP course on herbal Cosmetics and food processing was organised at Basti exclusively for women in which 28 women candidates were trained, out of whom 6 belong to SC/ST category.

b) Process & Product Oriented EDP courses for self employment among rural youth were organised under central TRYSEM scheme being run by State Govt. A total of 56 SC/ST/Weaker Section candidates participated.

c) Technical courses for rural women from weaker section were organised under the Dwakara Scheme of Govt of India run by State Govt. 45 rural women have been trained under this scheme for detergents, wshing soap and agarbattis.

d) During the year, out of the 270 candidates trained under EDP courses 29 belong to SC/ST category and 81 were women.

e) During the year out of 193 candidates trained under MDP courses 22 belong to SC/ST category and 9 are women.

f) A technical training programme was organised for Army Wives Welfare Association, Red Eagle Brigade, Allahabad, at their request and was attended by 35 women, the wives of senior Army officers
