Introduction
Small Industries Service Institute, Ahmedabad covers the entire State of Gujarat covering 19 districts and Union Territories of Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu. The Institute with its 2 Branch, Small Industries Service Institutes, one each at Rajkot and Silvassa and one Field Testing Station, Ahmedabad, serves the small scale industries in these areas.

Workshop Facilities/Testing Jobs

One Branch Institute, Silvassa is equipped with facilities to provide Common facility services in the trade of Machine Shop. FTS, Ahmedabad is equipped with the facilities to provide common facility services in the Dyes and Dyes Intermediates. Branch SISI, Silvassa and FTS, Ahmedabad provided common facility services to 114 units by undertaking 143 jobs. By providing the above services, earned a revenue of Rs.60,979/- during 1998-99.

Blue prints, drawings Project Profiles publications etc. Prepared

During the year 1998-99 the Institute prepared 43 Project profiles under the Action Plan Programme. The Institute is having more than 3000 Project Profiles readily available as a guide schemes.

The consultancy services provided in the year 1998-99 by the Institute are given below :

Training & Seminars

E.D.P. Courses: Conducted 19 EDP Courses on (i) Food Products (Woman) at Aliabada, (ii) Air Conditioning & Refrigeration at Ahmedabad and (iii) on Computer DTP. 399 trainees were trained, out of which 55 from general category, 75 were women, 116 were SC and 9 were ST.

MDP: 4 MDP training courses were conducted at Rajkot, Silvassa and Himatnagar. 86 trainees received instruction.

Blue Print Reading courses: Conducted 2 Blue Print Reading courses at Rajkot, 86 candidates were trained.

Conducted Mobile Van Training Programmes at various districts viz. Junagarh, Rajkot. 547 candidates were trained.

Seminars

(i) An Awareness Programme on Water Minimisation & Cleaner Production was organised jointly by the Ahmedabad Engg. Mfrs. Association and SISI, Ahmedabad. About 60 participants actively participated in the programme.

(ii) Defence Vendor Awareness course was organised by SISI, Ahmedabad in association with Defence Institute of Quality Assurance, Bangalore and Gujarat. 39 participants attended the programme.

(iii) A one day programme on Phaseout of Ozone Depleting Substances was organised by Branch SISI Silvassa in association with DIC, Silvassa at Silvassa. The programme was attended by 40 participants.

Modernisation Programme

i) Prepared Status Report on Ceramic Glazed Tiles Industry.

ii) Prepared Directory on Refractory Industries.

iii) Prepared report on moulding defects in Gray Iron Foundries and on Heavy Forging defects related to heating rate and forging temperature.

Ancillary Development/Marketing and Exports

1.Arranged and attended PLC meetnig of IFFCO, Kalol and Gujarat Refinery, Baroda.

2. Registered 75 small scale units with Gujarat Sub Contract Exchange.

3. Prepared 3 project profiles on ancillary items.

Economic Investigation/Statistical

1) Prepared State Profile for the year 1997-98.

2) Prepared District Industrial Potentiality Survey Report of Mehsana, Amreli, Daman, Gandhinagar and Junagarh district for 1998-99.

3) Monthly Product Data of 193 units for 2% sample units and 152 units for 18 reservation items was collected.

Assistance to DICs

1. Attended Task Force Committee meetings at DIC, Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Surendranagar, junagadh, Silvassa, Daman, Valsad, Jamnagar, Himatnagar, Nadiad for PMRY.

2. Attended Motivational Campaign at Rajkot and Gondal organised by DIC Rajkot. 220 participants attended the programme.

State/ Central Govt. Linkages

1. Attended SLIIC meeting of Reserve Bank of India, ahmedabad.

2. Attended RALC meeting at Jt. DFT Ahmedabad.

3. Attended Central Govt Employees Welfare Coordination Committee meeting at Ahmedabad and Rajkot.

4. Attended meeting of Inter-media Publicity and Coordination Committee at Ahmedabad.

5. All the officers attended meeting called by Industries Commissioner, Govt of Gujarat, Gandhinagar for better linkages for the development of SSI units in Gujarat.

6. Director, SISI, Ahmedabad accompanies the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Industry at Baroda and Ahmedabad.

7. Attended Governing Council meeting of IGTR, Ahmedabad at New Delhi.

8. Attended Advisory Committee meeting of Polytechnology of CSIR, Ahmedabad.

9. Attended and delivered lecture about the activities of SISI and the facilities available for industries in the orientation programme for NGOs organised by Gujarat State Social Welfare Advisory Board at Junagadh. 250 NGOs participated in the programme.

10. Attended and delivered lecture during Management Development Training Programme and Entrepreneurship Development Programme organised by CED, Rajkot and PDTC Rajkot at various places of Saurashtra region.

Other Achievements

1. Attended Taxation Training programme organised by Rajkot Engg Association, Rajkot.

2. Attended Governing Body Meeting of Kutch Saurashtra Productivity Council, Rajkot.

3. Attended Export Potentiality Seminar organised by Rajkot Engg Association and delivered a lecture about the assistance provided by SIDO for export promotion.

4. Attended meeting of Small Scale Industries called by CII Ahmedabad.

5. Initiated action for the preparation of report on Engineering Ancillary Industries and transport sector, as desired by Industries Commissioner, Gandhinagar.

6. Contacted various associations for international trade fair exhibitions at Germany, Bangladesh, Taiwan and Jakarta.

7. Presented a technical papaer during the Programme on Technology Development and Environment Safety on Electroplating Industries organised by Rajkot Engg Association and PDTC, Rajkot.

8. Delivered lecture on Pollution Control in Ferrous Foundry organised by PDTC and Rajkot Engineering Association.

9. Attended enquiry of DC (SSI) regarding non-payment of dues to small scale units by large scale undertakings.

10. Discussed with Jetpur Dyeing & Ptg Assn, Jetpur regarding pollution control and the recovery of salt from effluents.

Capacity Assessment

Carried out capacity assessment of the following units and earned a revenue of Rs 1,500/-

a) M/s Powertech Engineers, Silvassa

b) M/s Jindal Photo Films Ltd, Silvassa

Other Items of Work

No of Technical Reports (other than those covered in Action Plan) prepared:

a) An officer presented technical paper in programme on 'Technology Development & Environment', 'Safety on Electroplating Industries' organised by Rajkot Engg Assn, and PDTC, Rajkot.

b) An officer prepared an article on 'Use of Plastic in Automobile' for Annual Seminar of Saurashtra Plastic Mfrs Assn and published in their annual souvenir.

c) A booklet on '20 Project Profiles on Reactive Dyes' published and sent to DC (SSI), New Delhi.

d) Prepared project report of M/s Kamal Agro Industries Jafrabad (Amreli) and earned a revenue of Rs 2,500/-
