SISI Agra (UP)

Introduction

Small Industries Service Institute alongwith Central Footwear Training Centre and Workshop at Agra looks after the promotion and development of existing Small Industries and prospective entrepreneurs in 16 districts of U.P. under its jurisdiction. The Field Testing Station, Dehradoon has also been attached to the Institute. The districts served by the Institute are Agra, Mathura, Firozabad, Manipuri, Etah and Aligarh in Agra Division, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Bulandhshahar, Saharanpur and Hardwar in Meerut Division and Pauri, Tehri, Chamoli, Uttarkashi and Dehradoon in Garwal Division.

Workshop Facilities/Testing Jobs Conducted/Revenue earned

Workshop attached to the Institute continued to provide common facilities to small scale industries in general Machine-shop. Field Testing Station at Dehradoon has been engaged in testing G.I.S. Lamps and Auto bulbs and is providing assistance for their improvement. During the year 1998-99 the Institute undertook 28 jobs and earned revenue of Rs. 15,228/-.

Technical Schemes, Blue prints/drawing etc. Prepared and Supplied

The Institute prepared 54 Project Profiles the year 1998-99 for the benefit of the prospective entrepreneurs. A number of schemes were prepared and supplied to unemployed youth under Self Employment Scheme and to DICs in its jurisdiction. The Institute prepared reports on various aspects i.e. Tannery Solid Waste, Pollution Control in Leather Tanning Industries.

Consultancy Services Rendered

Consultancy Services were provided by the Institute to 4391 existing and prospective entrepreneurs in the Fields of mechanical, metallurgy, chemical, food, glass & ceramics, leather & footwear, electrical, service industry, industrial management, economic & statistical as per the breakup shown in the table below:

Training and Seminars Conducted

During 1997-98, this Institute organised 4 EDPs of 4 to 6 weeks duration, 2 MDPs of 15 days duration, 2 Motivational Campaigns for entrepreneurs.

EDPs

1) 6 week EDP on 'Beautician' exclusively for educated unemployed women entrepreneurs was conducted at Agra. 35 particpants including 7 SC/ST, 3 OBC, 3 minority and one physically handicapped attended the programme.

2) 5 week EDP on 'Computer Hardware Maintenance' was organised for educated unemployed youth at Mathura. 37 participants including 3 women, 3 SC/ST candidates attended this programme.

3) 5 week EDP on 'Fashionable Leather Goods' was organised at Agra for educated unemployed youth. 20 participants including 7 SC/ST and women attended the programme.

4) 5 week EDP on 'Leather and Sports Goods' was organised at Meerut in collaboration with PPDC Meerut. 23 participants including 19 SC candidates participated in the programme.

MDPs

This Institute organised 2 MDPs on 'Management Information System' each one at Agra and Mathura. In both programmes 73 participants including 13 SC/ST and 13 women participated.

Motivational Campaigns

1) 2 days Motivational Campaign was organised at Govt Polytechnic Banda in collaboration with SISI Kanpur. 80 candidates participated in the programme.

2) Another Motivational Campaign was organised at Block Rampura District Jalaun. 215 candidates participated in the programme.

Ancillary Development, Marketing and Export
Ancillary Development: The work related with the sub-contract exchange for whole Uttar Pradesh was being looked after by SISI, Kanpur which was quite inconvenient to provide services efficiently. This Institute proposed to set up a sub contract exchange at Agra.


Exports: A 3 day programme on 'Packaging for Export was organised at Agra, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Packaging. 25 existing export-worthy units participated in the programme. Marketing: The Institute inspected and recommended 70 SSI units to NSIC for their registration under single point registration scheme.

Economic Information and Statistical Services Quarterly production data in respect of 23 selected SSI units wwas collected regularly in connection with the computation of 2% Production Index. Monthly production data in respect of 14 sample units on reserved items were also collected regularly.

The Institute completed 2 reports on the potential survey in respect of Hardwar and Saharanpur, Districts of the State, during the year 1998-99.

Assistance to District Industries Centres

The Institute continued to be in close Liaison with all the DICs and provided backup and support in providing assistance in Techno-Economic matters related to the promotion and development of small scale units of their respective districts.

Officers attended Task Force Committee Meetings at different places organised by different DICs for the selection of the beneficiaries under PMRY 1997-98.

Assistance to Entrepreneurs of SC/ST Women and Weaker Sections

During the year, the Institute conducted 4 EDPs and 2 MDPs in various places under its jurisdiction and altogether 62 women and 49 SC/ST candidates and one physically handicapped candidates were trained. The Institute has been extending preferential treatment to the candidates belonging to SC/ST, women or weaker section category in providing various services to the entrepreneurs.

Pollution Control

The Institute organised an Awareness and Training programme on 'Waste Minimisation & Cleaner Production' for Pottery & Ceramic Manufacturers at Khurja. 70 participants from 30 SSi units of Khurja participated in the programme.

Quality Control

Technical officers of this Institute have been providing all possible assistance to the SSI units in improving quality of their products. In addition to that an 'Awareness Programme on ISO-9000' was also conducted at Agra for the existing SSI Units.
