Orissa' s House Committee on
Railways demands Rs. 1,330 crores from the Rail Budget 2008-09

The House Committee on Railways in Orissa headed by Speaker Maheswar
Mohanty presented a proposition on Wednesday before Railway Minister
Lalu Prasad Yadav in Delhi wherein he raised an allotment of Rs 1,330
crore to the State from the upcoming Railway Budget of 2008-09.
The proposed demand has been made to carry out various projects and
plans such as Rs. 622 crore for currently going on six projects, Rs 50
crore for electrification of two sections, Rs 125 crore for gauge
conversion and Rs 500 crore for doubling. Apart from these, the
committee also stressed the railway minister to grant the approval of
nine new railway lines for which survey has already been done.
Railway Minister, Lalu has assured that recommendation for the
materialization of the planned projects would definitely be forwarded to
the Planning Commission. The House Committee also threw lights on issues
like bringing up of new train services, enhancing the frequency of
trains, improving the quality standards of onboard services along with
carrying out the betterment of basic amenities at important railway
stations in the state.
The committee also put forward the Puri- Konark project on which the
railway minister commented that keeping in view the tourist potential at
these places, the pending project here would be started as soon as the
State Government grants the required land.
The projects for whom the allotment of funds have been made include
Lanjigarh Road-Junagarh- Rs 120 crore, Khurda Road- Balangir-Rs 150
crore, Haridaspur- Paradip-Rs 175 crore, Angul-Dubri- Sukinda Road-Rs 75
crore, Talcher-Bimalagarh-Rs 75 crore, Daitari-Banspani-Rs 60 crore.
Railway Minister, Lalu Prasad has assured that the issues put forward
by the committee would be take into consideration in the soon to be
released Railway Budget 2008-09.
